Meet Ruby, age 2, and Adam, age 5.
As you can guess the art studio was named after my daughter Ruby, but it was definitely cleared with Adam first. As a matter of fact, he chose the name so I didn’t have to worry that he would feel left out. As you can see from the pictures we LOVE holidays - especially Halloween.
Ruby Slippers’ story starts in Atlanta, where we lived for 10 years until we moved to Tampa a year and a half ago, and then finally to Sarasota. As for me, my grandmother was an oil painter and my aunt is also an artist. I, however, didn’t begin painting until a few years ago when my grandmother passed away. I asked for her oil paints and brushes and started dabbling a little in painting but never really thought of myself as an artist.
While pregnant with my son I decided to paint a mural in his nursery. I suddenly wanted to paint on everything in my house (walls, bookshelves, tables, cabinet knobs) as well as on canvas. When Adam started preschool I was asked to paint a mural in the school which led to teaching art classes.
We’ve now settled ( well, since July) in Sarasota to be closer to family, stay out of traffic, play outside all year long, and go to the beach whenever we want!
